I've started the first draft of my first ever science fiction romance this week and have already completed the first 6030 words.
After writing historical and paranormal/historical, writing sci-fi just feels like fun. That's not to say I'll stop writing those other genres, because they were a lot of fun too. It's just that switching my gears brings out a fresh feeling to my writing.
What do all of you out there think about switching genres? Do you think it's a good thing for writers to stretch their wings?

Hi Susan. I found your blog via my Google alert for Science Fiction Romance. Welcome to the ranks of the "skiffy rommers" (SciFiRom writers). Yes, personally I think changing gears and trying on a different genre for size is refreshing. Though my first three to be marketed are all SFR, I have future projects that will venture into paranormal suspense, time travel, fantasy and historical territory. My Muse is not the cookie cutter sort. :)

I could never be one of those novelists who keeps writing in the same genre over and over again. It's just not me. Glad to see others with like minds.

LOL. It'll be awhile for this one, Isabel. I never allow anyone to read my first drafts and want to get to the end, then put it aside for awhile before I start any revising.
