Been busy with edits for Cassidy's War and haven't had much time to post blogs, but I wanted to post a progress report.
I'm halfway through edits, with two weeks left to go, so think I'm doing very well. I'm also making real headway with the plotting out of my new Civil War set novella and hope to finish soon, so I can start writing the first draft.
I also have two short stories I plan to give final edits and submit this week to True Romance magazine.
In the meantime, I'll leave you with the blurb for Cassidy's War.
The Civil War is over, but Cassidy’s War is just beginning.
Cassidy Stuart longs to attend medical school. Her training under her physician father and her time serving as a nurse during the war, have only increased her desire to be a real physician with a practice of her own. When the man who’d left her at the altar five years before, returns, she’s determined not to let him upset the plans she’s set for herself.
Unknown to his former fiancĂ©e and her family, George Masters is now a Pinkerton agent sent to investigate a physician now living in George’s former hometown. When he finds Cassidy hasn’t married, he hopes he can have another chance with her, but can’t reveal his real reason for returning, at least not until his mission is accomplished.
Can love be rekindled with a doctor bent on revenge against them both?
Later, I'll post a few unedited excerpts from the novel.
The day by day trials and tribulations of writing historical and paranormal romance.

Edits are in!
I got the first round of edits for Cassidy's War on Monday. I was worried that I'd have to push my other projects aside to work on them, but figured if I can edit 20 pages per day, I'll meet my deadline with a couple of days to spare.
I did most of the work on this book pre-contract when I did two full editor requested revisions, so I'm hoping most of the work is already done. I'm hoping to complete the first 100 pages by Friday.
So, I should have time to complete the first draft on a short contemporary story that's nearly done, as well as plot out a new Civil War set novella.
Having solid deadlines somehow makes me feel more productive and efficient.
Not only did I complete the first 40 pages of edits, but I researched and wrote a Civil War blog for Slip Into Something Victorian that will be up on Friday and wrote another 500 words on my short story.
It might be because, now I have a deadline for the edits, I'm getting right to work instead of fooling around online or checking emails.

Back to work on my time travel novella
I just polished up a new short story and sent it off on Monday. Now, I've got three submissions out at once. Yay! Haven't had that many out for a long while.
Now, I'm back to the time travel novella I had to stop work on a while back to finish up my novel. I had to go back and finish up the plot outline, but now it's done. Today I moved around the opening scenes and wrote an additional 1131 words. I want to keep moving forward until I finish the first draft.
This novella is an offshoot of my Civil War time travel romance, Erin's Rebel. But the novella takes place 20 years after the war. The hero and heroine of Erin's Rebel are the parents of the novella's heroine, the hero is from our time.
It's fun to work on a piece taken from an existing story. My latest novel is too. Characters and situations already exist from the original story, so it's sort of like moving forward through time and seeing the characters grow.

Ack! Thought I was farther along with that novella
In going over my partially completed time travel novella, I found that although I'd written the first three scenes, I'd only plotted out the first eight scenes. So, before I resume writing, I have to go back and plot out the second half of the story.
I'd thought I'd finished that, so was a little disappointed, but I'll finish plotting, then get back to writing the first draft.
That's what happens when I leave a project midway through.

Confusing week for me
I thought I had my path clearly spelled out. My plan was to plot out my latest romance novel, a science fiction romance, and have it all finished, so I could start writing in June as part of a summer book challenge.
But now, I've got a rejection for my latest historical, with a request to revise and resubmit. I know if I follow my editor's suggestions, she'll likely contract this manuscript, while I have no idea yet who I'll submit the sci-fi to whenever I manage to get that one finished.
So, I'm doing the turnabout once again. The historical romance goes to the top of my to-do pile, while the sci-fi gets put on the back burner again.
Although I do like to switch back and forth with multiple projects, it's hard to stay focused on two major projects. So, my plan now is to complete the revision on the historical, resubmit, then resume plotting. I have the opening chapters of the new book plotted out anyway, so can at least start writing in June, plotting further along as I go.
So, that's my plan for now, unless something else crops up.
The life of a freelance writer, I guess.

It's a beautiful day!
Finally, after months of bone-chilling, buried in snow, or drowning in buckets of rain weather, we're experiencing our first real touch of spring. The temps are supposed to rise to 72 degrees here.
And it's making it all that much harder to stick at my desk and work. But I put in more than a solid hour of plotting out my science fiction romance story. For now, I'm calling it Jason's Honor, although that might change. I have the general plot worked out and for now, am working on a scene by scene outline. Although I have a lot of blank pages right now, the beginning and end of the story are really starting to jell. Just have to work on that darned middle.
I've also been working on an idea for a short comtemporary romance and ideas were flashing through my head early this morning, while I was busy with my workout and household things. Just have to sit my butt in the chair with my pad and write them down. That little story is starting to come alive too. It always seems the ideas come when I'm doing non-writing related things.

Plotting Time
I'm back to plotting again, but this time I'm plotting out new scenes for a manuscript already written. This is the second time a manuscript came out too short after I wrote the first draft. So, what I've decided to do is reread what I already wrote, then plot out several new scenes I can insert right into the story. I've already written four new scenes, which added about 2000 words to the manuscript, but that's not enough.
I spent the past three hours rereading and writing ideas for new scenes. So far, I've got a list of five new scenes I can add to this story. The last time I had to do this, those new scenes really enhanced the original draft, so I'm hoping it will work with this story too.
