One Quarter of the Way...

I'm happy to announce I'm 100 pages into my summer book project. Official word count is 18,688.

I hope to get at least another 10 k completed by the end of this month.

My scene by scene outline has been a big help in allowing me to not get bogged down, because right now, I'm mired in edits for another story, plus promo for Erin's Rebel. It's hard to keep that balance when you've got projects in different stages of development, but I've been keeping at least one hour per day devoted to my summer project and it seems to be working out.

Any of you have any tips on juggling several projects at once?

Sounds like you're making great progress, Susan!

LOL I don't have any tips on keeping two projects going at once... but if anyone shares any, let me know! ;o)

Thanks, Nicole! I know I'm a masochist when it comes to writing, but conversely, I never get writer's block. LOL.

Great going, Susan. I need to take a leaf out of your book - I spend all my time promoting and keeping up with blogs etc. and nne writing, if I'm not careful. I'm going to try the hour a day approach!

Thanks, Lyn! It really works for me. The trouble with being published is, it leaves less of your time to actually write.

But I want to keep moving forward on this new project and this seems to work. Aside from that sacred hour, I can spend as much time on the other stuff as I like, but still feel I accomplished my goal.

I don't juggle so much as I fiddle. Or rather, my muse fiddles. Whatever tune strikes, that's what I work on. This is the opposite of what I was told when I first started writing, and it was advised I be disciplined enough to stick with one project straight through. Sometimes I still do. But I get in different moods, and I opt to be flexible to take advantage.

The primary drawback is it takes me longer to finish work this way, in part because I lose rhythm and often have to reread parts to get back in the flow. But as long as I'm enjoying the process, I'm happy with the journey!

Hey Susan! Thanks for dropping by my blog!

Your progress is excellent, keep up the good writing!

As for hints on multiple projects...I have four ongoing at the moment and find that I turn to each one individually depending on mood. With that said, I also am up to my ears in sticky notes and composition pads from all of the little things I jot down for each story that comes to me so I "don't forget".

Hi, Lisa and J.A.! Thanks for stopping by.

I know there are a lot of writers like me who juggle multiple projects. It was years ago, when I read bios by authors who worked on multiple projects, that I got inspired. I wanted to do that too!

Good for you, Susan. I may need to adopt your program for my own summer projects. LOL

I've got one novel in reveiw for possible contract and one in the works--actually two in the works--neither of which I have been able to touch in a while but things are about to change! I will write, I will write! My new mantra:)

Good luck, Dayana! Both with your submission and new projects!

My other full-length project is in the revision stage and I work on that on an on and off basis. Right now, I'm editing the opening chapters to enter in a contest.
